A new recipe for me, and I found it to be very good. Easy dough to work with and the flavor is really nice. I really was suprised that it kept it's nice shape and ended up larger than I thought it would b...

As I relax my grip and let my shoulders go down and stretch my fingers out. I can stand back and admire my first adult coloring book adventure. I think this was meant to be an exercise in relaxation and to make me feel like I was in somewhat of a Zen experience.

My dear...

English muffins, hard boiled eggs, watermelon, bananas, goat feta cheese with chili seeds ( that is so good) and almonds. Can't be bad. Breakfast of Champion, retirees that is. Or anyone. Make it at home, it is most of the time better for you. Maybe it all really  is...

It's hot here in Costa Rica and I love a good popsicle. I can control the sugar when I make them myself. This time I used Mango juice, so there is more sugar then if you use fresh, but I had it on hand so I used it. The watermelon is fresh and a great one at that. My f...

I didn't notice a different in the taste after letting the dough set for 5 days. So go ahead and make two loaves of bread. Here I made two small round loaves,

I thought they would make a good big sandwich, cut in half. I had fun painting them with a little coco powder a...

I just planted some tomatoes, arugula and basil. Now if only the bugs, leaf cutter ants or iguanas don't eat everything, all will be well. I sure hope so. It's so hard to grow veggies here in the jungle. Now, it's funny but every other kind of plant will grow in my y...

Great day to bake....... Outside of course.

Soft and Chewy Ginger Cookies with Crystallized Ginger would go great with the bean and cheese burritos in the kids lunch.

I'm jumping in. I'm not your mother's blogger, oh wait I am. So I thought at 67 I know a little about cooking and baking. I am ready to share my sweet life here in the jungle of Costa Rica. My home away from home. My outside cooking area, eating area, living area. The "rancho" as it's called here in Costa Rica. I live here with my surfer husband of 44 years. We are retired  from California, born and raised.  I cook quite often. If I get bored, I bake and then try to give my goods away. I also sell baked goods to some cafes and folks around here. We really don't need to eat all that sugar.

I learned to cook from my husband's Grandma, Marie, who was from Italy. So of course I love to make Italian food and we love Mexican food also. But I will try to cook anything.  Everything I make has a piece of Grandma Marie in it.  More about her later.
