I love French Fries, I have my whole life. My love affair with fries goes back to 1962 or 1963. My friend Georgie and I would walk to Grants Store after school and each get a basket of fries and a Vanilla Coke, back when they would put a squirt of Vanilla syrup i...

One of Grandma Marie's recipes that has been passed down to Joann my Mother in Law and then to me. It's a quick and easy side dish, or sometimes for Chuck and I, we have it as a main dish with a salad and some good crusty bread. Funny thing is we never have it for brea...

Ground beef wrapped in a couple of onion slices and then wrapped in bacon, last but not least BBQ sauce on top.

They start in the oven, because you should use raw ground beef, I used some meat balls that I had in the freezer not such a good idea. Because they were alrea...

Not so pretty, but pretty tasty. Frozen desserts on hot days make me happy. So make someone happy. Weekend project.

I froze the Ice Cream in the same cake pan I used for the cake, this way it was the same size. Also I put a 9in round of parchment paper on the bottom.

Ka...

This salad is so refreshing on a hot day, and with these Corn Fritters you really don't need a salad to have an excuse to make these beauties. Add a little sea salt just at the end and just kick back and eat and let someone else do the dishes. Right.

 Chuck li...

I made this cake for a friend for her Birthday. This is a good way to give a gift of a cake, easy to wrap up and take to the Birthday party as a gift.

Swirl it with a long pick

I used a round cake pan liner 9in. to put in the bottom of the pan. It worked out great.

APPRECIATING NATURE’S GIFTS, PLUS MY THIN FOCACCIA RECIPE

BY DEBY HOGUE  •  I wrote this article for Sixty and Me

It’s the rainy season here in Costa Rica and it makes me think of comfort food. There’s only one small problem – it’s hot out! It might be raining, but,...

A friend here in Costa Rica needed these for her daughters Birthday Breakfast. So here I am making them again, oh the pain. Right, the recipe always makes 3 extra, bad and good for Chuck and I. They are so good. I love the dough, it's a dream to work with and it's lite...

ABOUT ME

I'm jumping in. I'm not your mother's blogger, oh wait I am. So I thought at 67 I know a little about cooking and baking. I am ready to share my sweet life here in the jungle of Costa Rica. My home away from home. My outside cooking area, eating area, living area. The "rancho" as it's called here in Costa Rica. I live here with my surfer husband of 44 years. We are retired  from California, born and raised.  I cook quite often. If I get bored, I bake and then try to give my goods away. I also sell baked goods to some cafes and folks around here. We really don't need to eat all that sugar.

I learned to cook from my husband's Grandma, Marie, who was from Italy. So of course I love to make Italian food and we love Mexican food also. But I will try to cook anything.  Everything I make has a piece of Grandma Marie in it.  More about her later.
